Job Overview: The Mechanic Technician is responsible for maintaining and servicing the mechanical equipment, control systems, & power distribution systems, within our facility. The role involves performing preventative maintenance, routine repairs, and conducting safety and maintenance inspections. The technician will use technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment, engines, and compressors as well as know and adhere to all GMP guidelines. Additionally, the technician will manage parts ordering and coordinate with service providers to complete maintenance tasks. Documentation of activities will be tracked using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or work order system.
Essential Job Duties
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on industrial equipment, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or failures, identifying root causes and implementing timely repairs.
- Replace or repair defective parts using precision instruments and tools.
- Monitor the performance of machinery during operations to detect irregularities or inefficiencies.
- Maintain logs and records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and parts replacement.
- Adhere to safety protocols and ensure all equipment operates in compliance with safety regulations.
- Participate in safety training and contribute to a culture of workplace safety.
- Perform lockout/tagout procedures during equipment maintenance or repair.
- Assist in installing, upgrading, or modifying industrial machinery as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers or production managers to improve equipment efficiency and reliability.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following established safety procedures and regulations for hazardous materials handling.
- Provide mechanical maintenance information through requests and answering questions.
- Follow GMP’s requirements and regulations
- Able to work OT and weekends as necessary.
- All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a trade apprenticeship or technical training is preferred.
- Experience in food manufacturing facilities is preferred.
- Proven experience in maintaining and servicing mechanical equipment, control systems, & power distribution systems.
- Familiar with Lock Out, Tag Out procedures
- Weld and use cutting torch for metal fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with CMMS or work order systems.
- Knowledgeable with PLC controls and computer operated equipment
- Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations for hazardous materials handling.
- Performs tasks with accuracy and speed.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.
Work Environment
This is a food manufacturing facility. The environment may vary from warm to wet, to cold, to freezing, depending where you are in the plant.
