As a Produce and Dry Goods Buyer at our family-owned food manufacturing company, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the availability of high-quality raw materials needed for our food production operations. You will be responsible for procuring a wide range of produce and dry goods, maintaining relationships with suppliers, and contributing to the overall success of our company.Key Responsibilities:Procurement:Identify, source, and purchase a variety of produce and dry goods, such as cabbage, carrots, onions, flour, oil, spices, and other ingredients required for food production.Ensure the procurement process is cost-effective while maintaining product quality standards.Monitor market trends, pricing, and availability to make informed purchasing decisions. Supplier Management:Establish and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers.Identify potential new suppliers, negotiate contracts, and evaluate their performance.Collaborate with suppliers to resolve issues related to quality, pricing, and delivery. Management:Manage inventory levels to meet production demands while minimizing excess stock and waste.Implement inventory control strategies to optimize storage space and reduce carrying costs.Regularly assess product shelf life to prevent spoilage and ensure freshness. Quality Assurance:Work closely with quality control teams to ensure the consistency and quality of incoming produce and dry goods.Conduct quality checks upon delivery and address any discrepancies or issues promptly. Cost Control:Develop and implement cost-saving strategies to maximize profitability without compromising product quality.Monitor and control expenses related to procurement activities, including transportation and storage costs.Compliance and Documentation: Stay up-to-date with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to food safety and procurement.Maintain accurate records of procurement transactions, supplier contracts, and inventory levels. Collaboration:Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, logistics, and finance, to ensure a smooth supply chain process.Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders to understand their product requirements and address any supply issues. Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.Proven experience in procurement, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.Strong negotiation and communication skills.Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality control standards.Proficient in using procurement software and tools.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions and business needs. Work EnvironmentMust be able to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time and able to stand, walk, kneel, and bend throughout the day.The plant environment includes freezers, refrigerators and manufacturing equipment.
